Building on last years success, Sheffield band Driftrun with support from local creative agency, Iris, are once again bringing us, what promises to be, a delightful afternoon of family fun and music all in the name of raising money for the Sheffield Childrens Hospital.
Set around the bandstand in Weston Park there will be seven local acts taking to the stage for our entertainment purposes. It’s certainly an eclectic mix as the line up shows. With the unique style of Mark Nichols, a man with a guitar who can easily challenge the sounds of a full band gently easing the us into a Sunday afternoon followed by Blue Lip Feel. Relative newcomers to the scene, these guys are certainly holding their own and with festival slots confirmed for the summer, they are surely a band to see now. Rotherham based Alvarez Kings also take to the small stage, having recently completed a European tour it’ll be great to see them back on home soil.
Having settled into recent line up changes dance act Playground Mafia are ready, set and go to increase the tempo with their uplifting beats and catchy rhymes. Local lad and ex Little Man Tate fella, Jon Windle is sure to astound us with his lyrical wonders and surefire talents. Curators of the day, Driftrun are challenging boundaries at the moment. Initially another indie type band their way of fusing genres including drum and bass, slick beats they have broken out the guitar band loop. The wonderful Steve ‘Papa’ Edwards is joined by The Big Love Strong bringing us talents to astound. Edwards has written, played and sung with some of the worlds finest acts. A sure capture for the day and a must see for all.
It’s not all about the music it has to be said. Weston Party is about family, friends and fun. There will be food and drink outlets available on the day or if you’re feeling culinary free to bring a picnic, bring a deckchair, maybe bring an umbrella (we can’t promise good weather).
Last year nearly £900 was raised for Sheffield Childrens Hospital in donations on the day, lets set to beat that this year.
