Sheffield Sound, 14th &15th September 2012

[wide]Sheffield Sound1 | Sheffield Sound, 14th &15th September 2012[/wide]Listen up! The festival fun ain’t over ’til it’s over. Sheffield Sound is a two day event bringing together a selection of the best Sheffield bands, DJ’s and local artists. The event will be taking place at 77 Sidney Street, a warehouse which already hosted Kid Acne’s South Yorkshire, for this year’s Tramlines Festival, proving itself to be a most worthy venue, rooted in Sheffield’s industrial city centre.

The most interesting thing about this event, is it’s origins. The line-up started out as an art project for Tom Holmes, a student who recently completed his GCSEs. The question he set himself was, ‘If you could put together all the local bands that you would ideally like to see together at one venue, who would you include?’ He created a Leeds/Reading Carling Festival style poster, which was later uploaded on Facebook and tagged with the acts. The response was amazing and the number of ‘Likes’ was so huge, it quickly materialised into a more practical project. Though some of the acts declined because of prior engagements, they were quickly replaced by other great acts who showed interest in the event. With help from family members, Mike and Claire, Tom got in contact with more experienced organiser, Aaron Procter of AMP Live, who helped make the dream line-up a reality. Not bad for a regular, young, gig enthusiast eh?

And so, the final line-up has been unleashed and is as follows for the Friday night: Arkham Karvers, Resonate, and Liberty Ship to name a few, with headliner’s, The Blame keeping us up til midnight. The DJ’s spinning will be: Russ Frisby (Soundlab), Mark Flaherty (Blackbirds), Emily Jane Stancer, and Sheffield Sound’s own, Mikey. A one day ticket is a fiver but want a weekend ticket and it’s only a little extra at £8. Then you can do it all again Saturday night with a line-up including: Kartica, The Blackbirds, Sour Cherry, Alice & Matt from Dead Like Harry, and headliners, The Ratells. The DJs capping off this weekend will be: Jimmy May & Tom Swannick (Puzzled), Vicky & Beth (PORK), Ben & Danny (Room On Fire), Felicity (D I R T Y L O V E) , as well as the Alvarez Kings’ Paul Thompson coming back for more. So the next time you find yourself day dreaming about the perfect local festival, just think, maybe…
