Mr Richard Hawley has already played his double date at the City Hall but there’s still time to get tickets for Django Django at Plug on 22nd October and Lianne La Havas at the Leadmill on the 20th.
Django Django-Hail Bop
The Leadmill has a busy month with Splashh and Swim Deep, fresh from their chaotic Gatsby exploits at Tramlines, returning to support NME favourites Spector. The NME tour also stops off with a bill featuring Howler, The Cast of Cheers and Gross Magic. Other highlights include Dan le Sac and 2:54 who play on the 29th.
Indeed the 29th sees a ridiculous clash of great bands. Along with 2:54, Vancouver’s finest Japandroids are playing at the Harley. It’s also a Manchester double at Plug with Delphic and D/R/U/G/S. SOYO’s best free line-up this month features the impressive the Fossil Collective alongside the incredibly talented Luke Sital-Singh.
2:54 – Scarlet
Saving money? Well there is plenty of free music to be had. Alessi’s Ark and O Children are both playing at Bungalows and Bears this month. There’s also a great local line-up featuring Pet Rock, Flying Wing and Che Ga Zebra. The Sunday Exposed Sessions at the Forum feature Man Made and Sarah Mac, whilst the best free line-up of October is easily the mighty Tall Ships and Dad Rocks at the Bowery.
Tall Ships – Everything Touching
On the local front, don’t miss the Xrayhorse Screaming Maldini single launch at the Harley with support from Cats:For:Peru, Bleech & The Kickliner. Kunst Kunst Kunst is back with Drenge and Blood Sport taking centre stage. The lovely Oxo Foxo is hosting a Woodland Cabaret at the Harland Café to celebrate the launch of her EP, whilst Hey Sholay, Best Friends and Sweet Nothings are playing for Steve Lamacq at the Harley. Trousers down no doubt, Wet Nuns and Flaming Skulls top the bill for the Halloween spectacular at Skakespeare’s
Hey Sholay-My Blood
Chaos will ensue at the Harley with the three-bassist sporting Dingus Khan and the madness of Bo Ningen both stretching the stage to its extremities. There’s also a Gallic feel with Francoise and the Atlas Mountains playing on the 27th of the month, whilst the spellbinding Sharon van Etten takes centre stage at Queens Social Club.
Talking of talented female singer-songwriters, Plug has a couple of UKs best, with the stunning Marika Hakcman (supporting the equally talented Benjamin Francis Leftwich) and golden girl Lucy Rose. Other highlights around the city this month include TOY at Plug, as well as The Cribs/Mazes and Little Comets/General Fiasco double-bills at the Academy.
