Congratulations go out to Christine and Ruth and all at Star Enterprise Work and Play, a social enterprise in Sheffield that runs the wonderful Under the Stars nightclubs for people with learning disabilities across South Yorkshire.
Out of 638 applicants they have been chosen as one of 25 winners of this year’s UnLtd Big Venture Challenge. The Big Venture Challenge is a unique, new competition, run by UnLtd and primarily funded through the Big Lottery Fund with support from the Millennium Awards Trust.
The aim was to find 25 people in England with 25 inspirational ideas to change the world, people with big ideas to transform disadvantaged communities across England.
Star Enterprise Work and Play was selected after a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style pitch in London in front of an expert business panel. They have been given £25,000 and will receive support to help to grow, and deliver more nightclubs around the country.
The team dedicated the win to Eddie Jackson, a founder member of the organisation who died suddenly last month.
The prize will enable them to take Under the Stars nightclubs to different parts of the country and giving people with learning disabilities the chance to DJ and have a ‘proper night out’.
