Detroit Social Club – I Am Revolution

After a year of high profile festival appearances and the release of their critically acclaimed debut album Existence, Detroit Social Club spilt from label Polydor to form their own label Fuck Pop Records to have freedom to produce their music free of compromise. The first release I Am Revolution is a cracking start.

Driven by the creative genius of main man David Burn this Newcastle 5 piece deliver another booming wall of sound. Previous comparisons with Verve, Kasabian etc whilst a bit lazy, are great compliments but these guys have a distinctive sound which is very much their own.

Anthemic, with waves of hypnotic psychedelia, you can picture a live rendition with Burn triumphantly holding his hands in the air delivering his emotive baritone lyrics. The song details a doomsday scenario ‘Someday soon the sun will set and all the stars will fall down from the sky, with weight of war around our necks…. spaceships full of weapons we descend upon the heavens and dance upon the line that binds the sky and sea together’ intelligent and powerful words that set you thinking.

Coupled with its raw bluesy riffs and wonderful production this limited edition single is compelling listening and a must have.

A 24 date national DIY tour of intimate venues will see DSC visit Harley Sheffield 17th Feb, see you there.
