[wide][/wide]Sensoria is a festival of music and film (and much more besides) based in Sheffield. Back for its fifth year, Sensoria has built up a reputation for its quality and diversity of events. This year encompasses live music, film screenings, live performance, talks, exhibitions, workshops and Crazy Art Golf!
Taking place in many venues across Sheffield, here are some of the highlights:
Laurie Anderson’s Another Day in America (UK Premiere) – City Hall – 21st April
Laurie Anderson is an American experimental performance artist, composer and musician. Probably best-known for her single O Superman, she has been producing work as a performance-artist and electronic pioneer since the late ‘60s. Another Day in America will feature Anderson’s stories about life in contemporary America, continues her groundbreaking work with voice filters, story telling and music; painting a social, political and poetical picture of today’s landscape.
La Dolce Vita – Firth Court, The Quad, Western Bank – 25th April
Federico Fellini’s classic film is a series of stories following a week in the life of a philandering paparazzo journalist living in Rome. Starring Marcello Mastroianni & Anita Ekberg, La Dolce Vita is one of the greatest works of Italian cinema, causing controversy on release with its sexual themes and religious undertones, and marking Fellini’s move away from his early neo-realism.
Motor City vs Steel City – DLS, Snow Lane – 27th April
Detroit and Sheffield are both cities which have seen a strong creative impulse born from their decline as industrial heartlands. From the backdrop of cars and cutlery, both became respective hubs for pioneering electronic music. Motor City vs Steel City brings together some of the most important acts from both cities for an all-night celebration. Featuring DJ Stingray, Ryan Elliott, The Black Dog and Forgemasters
Crazy Art Golf – SensoriaSpace, Trafalgar House – 28th/29th April
Don’t miss the world’s first Crazy Art Golf course, specially created by Alan Smyth – legendary music producer, musician, inventor and artist. Crazy Art Golf will entice participants into a world that plays with their senses. The installation will work on many levels, from that of a highly enjoyable game of crazy golf to an exploration of shape, form and sound.
wAVe – CADS – 28th April
wAVe is a day-long event of audio visual entertainment including a selection of short films, live bands utilising visual elements, plus a selection of cutting edge audio visual performers using digital audio visual techniques.
