Lovebytes 2012

[wide]lovebytes | Lovebytes 2012[/wide]There’s revolution in the air in Sheffield as we have our very own Digital Spring coming. Lovebytes takes place around Sheffield on 22-24 March and is a festival of art, science and technology. Highlighting the creative and cultural aspects of digital technology, Lovebytes sees a varied assortment of innovative events taking place around the city.

Some of the highlights are:

Intuition and Ingenuity – Workstation

Intuition and Ingenuity is an exhibition to celebrate the life and ideas of one of Britain’s greatest men, Alan Turing. This country would be a much different place without his work, especially with digital computers, AI and, probably most importantly, the Enigma Code. The exhibition comprises new works by international digital art pioneers and emerging contemporary artists including Roman Verostko, Ernest Edmonds, boredomresearch, Patrick Tresset, Anna Dumitriu and Alex May.

Spawning Ground – Upper Chapel

One of the world’s foremost field recording artists, Jana Winderen, will be
presenting her extraordinary immersive sound installation, Spawning Ground, which explores the sonic environments of aquatic creatures and the movements of ice flows.

onedotzero : wow + flutter – Showroom

wow + flutter has been the driving force of onedotzero’s programming since its inception fifteen years ago. Revered for forecasting the future of the moving image, this is the place to discover the pioneering creatives who are defining the look of tomorrow.

Pattern Discovery – Channing Hall

An evening of extreme electronic music, collaboration and improvisation curated by Sheffield artists Mark Fell and Mat Steel and featuring Bruce Gilbert, Russell Haswell, and R/S (Peter Rehberg and Marcus Schmickler), plus access to a multichannel installation by Jana Winderen.
