Live Music Preview: December 2012

[wide]Preview Banner1 | Live Music Preview: December 2012[/wide]It’s the season where you have to be jolly until the big man in red spills the contents of his sack under your tree, or as Slade once said its ChrissssstMMMMAAAASSSSSSSS! So if you want a good excuse to break free from kissing Aunty Maude from underneath the mistletoe or simply avoiding those awkward works Christmas do’s here’s some of our tops tips for legging it and partying with likeminded people.

December is the month to see what Sheffield has to offer music wise and there’s a whole host of gifts out there. Kicks off with Feral Brood at the O2 Academy on the 1st, with their recent EP Into The Woods available for free download you’ve got chance to learn the words and sing-a- long. Support comes from Whispering Dolls, The Young Heavy, Unicorn Hunters and Cold Killer Footsteps.

Counterfeit are always happy to help out a friend in need and this night at the Green Room on the 5th, comes courtesy of a project by Sheffield Girl Times in support of Movember and it’s basically a post Movember party featuring the Young Peculiar, Seven Tors, The Whittlers, Chloe-Jade and Good Night Little Bear.

A night fit to burst on the 7th from those lovely people at SBSquared present Alvarez Kings almost fresh from a tour of the USA and Canada as well as Dark Horse, Twin Bears, Sour Cherry, The Encounters and Nathanna, there’s also DJ sets from those Exit Calm fellas and it’s being held at Plug. Probably the gig of the year is Pulp at the Motorpoint Arena on the 8th, a much welcomed night for the band and one we certainly can’t wait for.

If you haven’t got a ticket for Pulp then why not head to The Plug for Renegade Brass Band’s new night ‘Off The Record’, expect two live funked up music sets from the Renegade team and  Jungle Lion infusing their ska, reggae, dub vibes with the masses, there’s also DJ sets from Paulo (Thirsty Ear), Zxodiac and Mis Red Arts Curates to get the party started. You’ll be dancing from dusk to damn on this one.

Mathcore team Rolo Tomassi head to The Harley on the 10th, expect growls, lunges and a whole lot of sweat. If you’re not really into getting sweaty then Blue Lip Feel are Leadmill bound on the 16th and Slow Club are at Queens Social on the 16th.

SOYO Live bring their now traditional Christmas party madness on the 17th with The Book Club headlining and top supports coming from Screaming Maldini and Frazer King. If your head isn’t sore after the cheap cocktails from the night before then the nutters that are Wet Nuns are probably going to rip The Harley a new one on the 18th. For something a little more delicate the Library Theatre has Hey Sholay topping off a fantastic year on the 21st with support from Harley Likes Music.

Once all the festivities are over there’s New Years Eve and the Great Gatsby are reinforcing their windows as it’s apparently New Years Evil in the form of Flaming Skulls, Spit-Bubble Cathedral and Blood Sport. A night that will certainly smash into 2013.
