Animat Presents: John Carpenter’s Dark Star -Lantern Theatre – 16th November

[wide]darkstar4 | Animat Presents: John Carpenters Dark Star Lantern Theatre 16th November[/wide] Back in 1974, John Carpernter made his directorial debut with the Sci-Fi comedy Dark Star. Part parody of 2001: A Space Odyssey, part calling card from budding film student Carpenter, it has gone on to achieve cult status and become highly influential on sci-fi films which followed (notably the Alien franchise). Carpenter went on to become one of the most innovative and influential directors of his generation.

The story follows four slacker techno-nerds in their mission through deep space to destroy planets and ward off boredom and loneliness, whilst attempting to hold on to what little they can remember of Earth.
Animat are a down-tempo electronica duo based in Sheffield. They have appeared at numerous festivals, art house cinemas and events with their unique “soundtracking” take on cult films. A mix of specially written music, tracks from their DJ catalogue and the film’s dialogue and score is played live with the screening.

With the express permission of John Carpenter himself, Animat have turned their sights on Dark Star. If you missed it back at Tramlines, they will be providing a live soundtrack to the film at The Lantern Theatre on Friday. To reserve a place, and for further info, simply email [email protected]
