I’ve always believed that the main purpose of festivals should be to introduce new bands to a wider audience that unfortunately without commercial backing they would inevitably evade. In July at this years Latitude Festival whilst breaking my weekend dash between stages to grab some food I was lucky enough or maybe I was destined to stop next to the Lake Stage to witness We Have Band.A 3-piece consisting of Mancunian Dede WP (vocals, percussion, sampler), and Londoners Thomas WP (vocals, guitar, bass, programming) and Darren Bancroft (vocals, drums, percussion, sampler). Dede and Thomas are married and Darren informed us they were in fact tonight celebrating their wedding anniversary.
Taking to the Ruby Lounge ground level stage all dressed in white to a disappointingly half fill but enthusiastic crowd the trio launched into an impressive 30 minute set of disco rock that gripped everyone in attendance, think Hot Chip, Human League and !!!.
Shockingly they are currently unsigned though recent singles You Came Out and Oh! can be purchased from your favoured digital outlet, 2 other songs Hear It In The Cans and Time After Time are featured on Kitsuné Maison Compilation 6 and 7 respectively. All these songs are featured on their myspace page, as is a sterling version of West End Girls, which they sadly didn’t play tonight. The highlights of the set were undoubtedly Hear It In The Cans with Dede and Thomas sharing vocals, the funk infused Oh! and the closing Honey Trap.
As their album is now finished I hope that they quickly find a home for it so I can buy it or at the very least that they visit the North West again soon.
