| Save the Picture House: Soundclash Appeal |
Raising the roof is no mean feat when akin to live performances, Sheffield unsigned night, Soundclash are taking it to the Abbeydale Picture House with a special one off-show encompassing four acts. Standing proud on Abbeydale Road since 1920, the neo-classical building also encompasses a snooker hall and an intimate live venue (Bar Abbey) downstairs. Over the years the Picture House has somewhat been left to ruin, until recent times when Friends of Abbeydale Picture House was formed, a fundraising group, who raised money and bought the building in order to restore it to its full glory. With a plan of action and plenty of renovations to undertake it’s a tough job, especially raising money for this kind of venture. So enters the Soundclash crew. Having successfully displayed the talents of local bands around big venues within South Yorkshire, they are taking it to another level and not just putting on a gig at the Picture House but also donating all the profits to the restoration fund. ![]() Soundclash have brought together Dead Like Harry, Neil McSweeney, Feelix and Scoundrel to tread the boards. Dead Like Harry have been creating waves of interest in the last year. They played Glastonbury 2009 and 2010 has been busy, they now head home after just finishing a UK tour. Their debut album was released this year, as was Neil McSweeney’s. Neil McSweeney the gentle giant with brooding lyrics accompanied by a guitar. He is rather wonderful. Feelix are one of those bands that are perfect for a summers evening, think laid back funk filled jazziness with a hint of pop covered with smoky vocals. Scoundrel completes the bill with their sweet indie/pop/rockesque mix. Carefully sourced, as always, an eclectic mix, which shows there’s something for everyone and in the process raising money for a good cause too.
