London based band Paper Crows, a chill-electro two-piece, release double A-side single ‘Follow The Leader/Fingertips’ in late March. After been championed on BBC Radio One by DJ Nick Grimshaw, and with their debut single gaining the band critical attention – most notably on The Guardian Music’s ‘Band of the Day’ feature – their second single is sure to make waves once again.
With the direction of Bjork and the voice of La Roux, Paper Crows could well be the most cutting edge band of 2011 so far. The band aim to mix electronic created sounds and vocal effects to create a melancholy haze of music, which stops your brain working and gets your pulse racing in equal measure.
Fingertips’ play’s on the slow, heavy-pounding beat to carry the song and features misty high-pitched vocals aside equally penetrating sirens and chimes coming together to create a beautifully spaced out and laid back cloud of sound.
Follow the Leader’ on the other hand plays off a mysterious intro before firing into a more rhythmic side of the band. With more lyrical content, dance-floor production and Madonna-esque vocals from lead singer Emma Panas, this song shows a more buoyant side to the bands sound.
Their second single is due for release on March 28th through Future Cut Records. For anyone eager to get hold of their work before the official release however, a free downloadable remix of ‘Follow The Leader’ is available at www.snd.sc/f0a87F. The download by George Lenton is a light dub-step take on the track.
